                     Guru Nanak Dev ji




Guru Nanak Dev ji was the first Guru of Sikhs.  His father's name was Mehta Kalu.  His mother's name was Tripta Devi.  His elder 'sister was Bebe Nanki. Guru Nanak Dev ji was always ready to help the needy.  Once his father gave him twenty rupees to start a business ?, Guru Nanak Dev ji saw some hungry sadhus.  He bought food for the sadhus with all the money he had.  His father asked him about the money he had given him.  Nanak said that he has done true duty and told him that he had fed the hungry sadhus.  After that he was sent to a Modi Khanna to work.  He spent his entire earnings on the poor and the deprived.  He never kept anything for himself.  He preached that God is present everywhere.  His main three teachings were: 'Naam Japo, Kirat Karo, Vand Chhako'.  Guru Nanak Dev led a life of purity and charitys, In order to spread his message of brotherhood, he took four long journeys (Udasiyan) in all the four directions.  Guru Nanak Dev composed "Japji Sahib" which is recited as morning prayer.


ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਨ।  ਉਸਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਹਿਤਾ ਕਾਲੂ ਸੀ।  ਉਸਦੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾ ਦੇਵੀ ਸੀ।  ਉਸਦੀ ਵੱਡੀ 'ਭੈਣ ਬੇਬੇ ਨਾਨਕੀ ਸੀ. ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਲੋੜਵੰਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਲਈ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਤਿਆਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ।  ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਉਸਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਕਾਰੋਬਾਰ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਵੀਹ ਰੁਪਿਆ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਕੁਝ ਭੁੱਖੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਵੇਖੇ.  ਉਸਨੇ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਲਈ ਖਾਣੇ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਪੈਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਖਰੀਦ ਕੀਤੀ.  ਉਸਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਪੈਸੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਜੋ ਉਸਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ.  ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਸਨੇ ਸੱਚੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਨਿਭਾਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਸਨੇ ਭੁੱਖੇ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੋਜਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।  ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਮ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਮੋਦੀ ਖੰਨਾ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਗਿਆ।  ਉਸਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਂਚਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਖਰਚ ਕੀਤੀ.  ਉਸਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਲਈ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਿਆ.  ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਰੱਬ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ.  ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੁੱਖ ਤਿੰਨ ਸਿੱਖਿਆਵਾਂ ਸਨ: ‘ਨਾਮ ਜਪੋ, ਕੀਰਤ ਕਰੋ, ਵੰਦ ਛਕੋ’।  ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਸ਼ੁੱਧਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਨ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਬਤੀਤ ਕੀਤੀ, ਆਪਣੇ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਫੈਲਾਉਣ ਲਈ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਚਾਰੇ ਪਾਸਿਓਂ ਚਾਰ ਲੰਮੀ ਯਾਤਰਾਵਾਂ (ਉਦਾਸੀਅਨ) ਲਈਆਂ.  ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਨੇ "ਜਪੁਜੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ" ਰਚਿਆ ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਸਵੇਰ ਦੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਵਜੋਂ ਪਾਠ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ.. .
